There are several different categories of vinyl flooring. 

"Click" or interlocking vinyl flooring comes in thicknesses ranging from 5mm to 10mm, with pad attached on the back of each plank or tile. This floor is floated (ie. it doesn't get staples or glued down). Completely waterproof, it can be used on cement, granite, tile, and other flat subfloors. The top layers consist of a UV coating and a wear layer to protect against scratches, dents, and sunlight, which isn't so much visible to the naked eye.

Loose lay is a type of luxury vinyl flooring product comprised of not only vinyl, but also phthalate-free plasticizers for added weight and durability. Designed for easy installation, loose lay is generally 5mm in thickness and requires an adhesive only for planks or tiles surrounding the perimeter of the room. We really love this option for ease of installation, durability, and great looks. 

Glue-down vinyl plank flooring is LVP that uses the glue-down installation process to adhere it to the subfloor/underlayment below for increased stability/durability. 2mm or 3mm thick planks or tiles are the most stable flooring option you can choose with longer warranties than "click" or "looselay" versions. This actually is the most affordable option and the most durable!
